There's a new pup in town.

The newest dog of the Chargers Pup program was officially unveiled this week, as the team officially unveiled 'Zeus' as the new name.

Zeus was saved from the East Valley Animal Shelter and was welcomed to The Bolt by a number of Chargers players with linebacker Denzel Perryman, cornerback Nikko Reed and quarterback DJ Uiagalelei all on hand.

It marked his official addition to the Chargers Pup Fam.

"It's fun to get the players involved," Chargers Vice President of Community Relations Heather Birdsall said. "One, it just brings a little more attention to the program but really just letting the players know about all the good that we're doing in the community and the good work these non-profits partners are doing, Easterseals and Paws for Life.

"It's really great to get them involved," Birdsall added.

Zeus was named with the help of the Bolt Fam, as the name won a resounding 70.4 percent of the votes in a social media poll during late September.

This is another year of the impactful program that has been around since 2020.

Fans will get to follow the journey of a dog preparing to become a life-changing companion for a person with disabilities and highlights the major role of service animals.

The dog ends up making an impact in a lot of other manners along the way through the program.

"This program in particular is very important to us," Birdsall said. "We say that it saves three lives. The dog is being saved from the local animal shelter, which helps the dog but also frees up the space for another animal. Then the dog is being trained in a prison setting, so it provides a way for people in prison who are training the dog to kind of make amends and find some purpose during their time there.

"It ends up becoming a service dog for a person with disabilities so then it helps out the other person as well," Birdsall added.

Up next for Zeus is a number of different events throughout the season before he officially graduates.

Fans can follow along with Zeus and his journey on @chargerspup on Instagram, as he will be busy in the coming months on his way to making a massive impact on the community.

"Zeus will definitely be coming to a couple of games this year so definitely keep an eye out for him around the stadium," Birdsall said. "We will be unveiling a partnership with Easterseals at the stadium too, and Zeus will be in attendance.

"He'll also be at a lot of other community events, so follow along at Chargers Pup [Instagram] to find out what he'll be doing," Birdsall added.
