The Chargers Impact Fund hosted the Legends Dinner with Shawne Merriman, a night filled with some experiences those on hand won't forget.

The event was held at The Pines Modern Steakhouse inside the Yaamava' Resort & Casino as part of the Legends Dinner Series, where guests gathered for an evening with the former Chargers linebacker.

With dinner, an autographed item and a live Q&A with Merriman, it was a full night for a good cause.

"The goal of the event is to join Yaamava' to celebrate the Impact Fund and also raise awareness to their community about what the Impact Fund does and the work we do," Chargers Impact Fund Senior Manager Taylor Chavez said.

She later added: "We align very equally with our values and our missions. We thought it would be a perfect partner to always represent what the Impact Fund does."

Merriman, an eight-year NFL veteran (six of which with the Chargers(, was on hand at the event that supported all that the Impact Fund programs.

After getting to know the Impact Fund and the support they provide, this event was a no-brainer for him.

"The first time I learned about the Chargers Impact Fund was a couple of years ago when I was playing in the celebrity flag football game," Merriman said. "I didn't know much about it before then I looked into it and I saw all the opportunities, inner city kids, a lot of people they were helping.

"When they said they were involved with Yaamava' and doing stuff here, I wanted to come down and show support," Merriman added. "To spread the word and talk about it so people know what's going on."

Following the dinner the Q&A kicked off, as guest asked the former player questions and he recounted stories.

It was the experience of a lifetime for lifelong Chargers fans like Thiana Nebel, who got to hear some firsthand stories from Merriman.

"Listening to his stories, you don't hear the fun stuff," Nebel said. "I think for a fan, who's been a fan for 20 years now, hearing all those locker room stories that you don't hear anywhere else is fun… It's nice to know the personal side."

The Chargers continued partnership with Yaamava' makes these experiences something that continue to bring everyone together.

"We've been able to bring more memorable experiences to the fans, our VIP guests and also help contribute to the Impact Fund's initiatives," Sponsorships Coordinator for Yaamava' Resort & Casino at San Manuel Wendy Badder said. "Then just bring more community together."

Another successful event was in the books, and another chance for the Impact Fund to make their mark on the community.

"Community engagement is everything," Merriman said. "It always has been because I try to remind, even the current players, without the fans and community we don't have much. You need the community support.

"I know that the NFL is big and the Chargers are big, but it really boils down to your backyard, community and people that surround what you're doing," Merriman added. "That's who you want your most support from."
