Chargers Honor Military at "Salute to Service" Game Presented by USAA

The San Diego Chargers honored active duty military and veterans at the annual "Salute to Service game, presented by USAA" on Sunday, November 13.

Throughout the season and leading up to Sunday's game, the Chargers honored those who serve and have served our country through multiple events at the team's practice facility and at local bases including the USAA NFL Boot Camp on MCAS Miramar and a Unit Interaction on Naval Air Station North Island.

On game day, the Chargers provided a special experience for all in attendance. Pregame entertainment included a performance by the Navy Band Southwest and a skydiving display by members of the Frog-X Parachute team.  Staff Sergeant Megan May of the United States Air Force sang the National Anthem and Sergeant Major James L. Johnson Jr. was honored with a Salute to Service Moment presented by USAA.  Major General Mark Wise also joined the team captains at midfield for the Coining Ceremony of a General presented by USAA.

At halftime, a special ceremony honoring five servicemen representing each branch of the military took place with USAA representatives honoring:  Sergeant First Class Patrick James Saltsman of the United States Army, Gunnery Sergeant Jose Perez of the United States Marine Corps, Petty Officer First Class Disi Zhao of the Navy, Second Lieutenant Brandon Lopez of the Air Force and Petty Officer Second Class John Thompson of the United States Coast Guard.

The Chargers "Salute to Service game, presented by USAA", is part of the National Football League and the NFL Players Association annual Salute to Service campaign.
