BREAKING: Antonio Gates Sets All-Time TE TD Record

Antonio Gates entered the 2017 season needing one TD reception to break a tie with Tony Gonzalez for most by a tight end in NFL history.

He did just that in the home opener against the Miami Dolphins.

On 2nd-and-goal midway through the third quarter, Gates hauled in a seven-yard TD strike from Philip Rivers.  Not only did his 112th catch pass Gonzalez, it also moved him into sole possession for the sixth most of any player to ever suit up in the history of the game.

Additionally, it was the 85th time Rivers connected with Gates for six, tying Steve Young and Jerry Rice for second most touchdowns by a QB-WR/TE duo in league history. Number 85 also made history against Miami, hauling in the 900th reception of his career on his first catch of the day.  He's only the 22nd player to ever reach the 900-catch plateau.

We will have more from Gates and others after the game.
