The Los Angeles Chargers added a pair of players though waivers on Sunday, claiming OL Michael Schofield from the Denver Broncos and DB Jeff Richards from the Carolina Panthers.
To make room, the team waived CB Craig Mager and WR Geremy Davis.
Schofield spent the past three seasons with the Broncos after they selected him in the third round (95th overall) in the 2014 NFL Draft. A versatile lineman capable of playing guard or tackle, he started at guard in Super Bowl 50, helping lead Denver to a 24-10 victory over Carolina. The 6-6, 301-pound Michigan product has started all 29 games he's appeared in since 2015.
Richards is a 6-2, 210-pound defensive back who signed with the Panthers earlier this year after a two-year stint in the CFL. He spent the past two seasons with the Ottawa Redbanks, helping them capture the 2016 Grey Cup championship. Richards began his collegiate career at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M before transferring to Emporia State for his final two seasons. He appeared in 23 games with 14 starts for Emporia State, recording 84 tackles, 12 passes defensed, five interceptions, two sacks and three blocked kicks. The 26-year old totaled seven tackles in three preseason games for the Panthers.
Mager was selected in the third round (83rd overall) in the 2015 NFL Draft. He appeared in 21 games with 10 stats, recording 29 tackles, six passes defensed and one interception. Meanwhile, Davis is a former sixth-round pick of the New York Giants who joined the Bolts midway through the 2016 campaign. He's played in 13 games between the two teams, catching two passes for 21 yards.
