Can Keenan Allen and Jason Verrett Further Emerge?
The marquee matchup of Keenan Allen vs Jason Verrett will likely be a show stopper as it proved to be last year at training camp.
As Head Coach Mike McCoy explained, Allen "earned every penny" of the four-year contract extension he signed this offseason. By this point, everyone knows the historic pace he was on last season before his Week 8 kidney injury.
Meanwhile, Verrett emerged in his second season as one of the top cornerbacks in the league and is fresh off his first Pro Bowl berth.
While the 24-year old Allen and 25-year old Verrett are already household names, they are far from satisfied with their standing in the league. Both players have aspirations of being the best in the league at their position, which is why their one-on-one battles at training camp bring out the best in one another.
"I know he's going to bring it each day, and he knows I won't back down," Allen said last year. "There is no let up. If we want to be the best in the league, we've got to beat the best in the league. And that is the way we look at each other each day on the field."
