3 Chargers Players to Watch Against Patriots in Wild Card Round

3PTWPatriots

The Chargers will be on the road in the Wild Card Round.

The Bolts will face the Patriots at Gillette Stadium in the first round. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. (PT).

Here are three players to watch on Sunday:

1. OLB Khalil Mack

The veteran is ready for another opportunity to notch a playoff win.

"It's either win or go home," Mack said this week. "I don't know what else you need."

Mack will be playing in his sixth postseason game, is looking for his first win and as is fired up as ever to try to get there this Sunday.

He's coming off impactful season with 5.5 sacks in 11 games in addition to four forced fumbles, 11 quarterback hits and 6.0 tackles for loss.

In addition to his 39 total pressures this year, he was excellent against the run once again with 14 run stops for a 9.9 percent run-stop rate, the fourth-highest among all edge rushers with at least 100 snaps.

Mack is as versatile as ever in Year 12 and has lined up on both the left and right side, meaning a matchup against another veteran in Patriots right tackle Morgan Moses or rookie Will Campbell on the left.

Moses played the vast majority of the snaps this year at that spot for New England, allowing just one sack all year. He did, however, allow a team-high 29 pressures according to Pro Football Focus.

Where the veteran tackle has been most effective has been in the run game, where he is the highest graded run blocker on the offensive line according to PFF and ranks seventh among all offensive tackles in ESPN's run block win rate.

Mack and the edge rushers will be a crucial area to watch as they try to limit the explosive Patriots offense.

2. WR Keenan Allen

Allen makes his playoff return in the powder blue.

The veteran receiver will be playing in his sixth postseason game as a member of the Chargers, as he figures to be a crucial part in his playoff return.

Allen was a gamechanger for the Bolts in 2025, hauling in 81 receptions for 777 yards and four touchdowns.

Not to mention, he displayed his prowess on the money downs and connection with Justin Herbert with another season of success.

Allen led the NFL in receptions on third down with 34, as 29 of them went for first downs. In total, 49 of his 81 catches this year moved the chains.

The veteran has taken on a role primarily on the outside this year with Ladd McConkey manning the slot, but has still seen a number of snaps at that position as well.

Going up against a New England defense that is 12th in the NFL on third downs with a 38.5 percent, it will be a big game to see if Allen can make his mark on 'Third and Keenan.'

3. CB Donte Jackson

Jackson headlines a unit that will surely be one of the areas to watch on Sunday night.

The 30-year-old has thrived in what's been perhaps the best season of his career this year, tying for the team lead of four interceptions and a career-high 12 passes defensed across 17 games.

He's been an integral part of the Bolts defense being among the best in the league in the secondary, as he also finished the regular season allowing just a 57.2 passer rating when targeted, good for third among all cornerbacks with at least 400 snaps, according to PFF.

And the secondary figures to be targeted this weekend in Foxborough.

Patriots quarterback Drake Maye has the second-most completions (34) and third-most passing yards (1,050) among all quarterbacks this year on passes of 20 yards or more.

He's connected on 10 of them with wide receiver Kayshon Boutte, who is questionable for Sunday, and eight with Stefon Diggs, who was the Patriots' leading receiver in 2025.

Diggs has had a bounce back year with 85 receptions for 1,013 yards and has split his time between being on the outside and in the slot.

There will be moving parts on both sides of the ball, but Jackson and the secondary will be tasked with limiting the New England offense.
