Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert will not practice Wednesday, Chargers Head Coach Jim Harbaugh announced at his noon press conference.
Harbaugh noted that Herbert will be in attendance on the field but won't participate in practice.
"Not going to practice but he hasn't missed a beat. Everybody back today, meetings and out on the field for walk-through," Harbaugh said.
He later added: "I don't think he's going to practice, practice, but he will be out there for practice and you'll see him out there."
Herbert underwent successful surgery Monday to stabilize a fracture in his left hand.
The Chargers said Monday that Herbert's return to play is considered day-to-day and that the quarterback's status for Monday's game against the Philadelphia Eagles will be determined later in the week.
"Just see how the week goes but he's doing good," Harbaugh said.
Herbert said after Sunday's game that he planned on playing against the Eagles as long as it was safe to do so.
Harbaugh said Wednesday that he was hopeful Herbert will play.
"We're optimistic that's going to be the case," Harbaugh said.
The quarterback will speak to media members after Wednesday's practice and this story will be updated then.
Of note, the Chargers will not put out an Injury Report on Wednesday because the team plays Monday night.
Herbert's official practice status will come Thursday and Friday, with his game status being announced on Saturday.
