How Jamaree Caldwell Can Impact the Chargers Defense

The Chargers have added a mammoth man in the defensive trenches.

The Bolts selected Oregon defensive tackle Jamaree Caldwell with the No. 86 overall pick in Round 3 of the 2025 NFL Draft, a move that gives the Chargers more beef up front.

And if it wasn't clear that Chargers General Manager Joe Hortiz and Chargers Head Coach Jm Harbaugh want to build their team from the inside out, this is just another shining example.

The Chargers drafted offensive players (Omarion Hampton and Tre Harris) in Rounds 1 and 2 but went defense in Round 3.

The opposite side of the ball was the priority this time around as Caldwell now has the chance to be a key player front for years to come.

The Bolts defensive line room is currently solid, with Teair Tart, Da'Shawn Hand, Naquan Jones, Otito Ogbonnia and others making up a well-constructed room.

Caldwell, who was ESPN's Jordan Reid's No. 89 overall player, can slot into that rotation, too.

He is 6-foot-2 and 332 pounds and played in community college before transferring to Houston for two seasons.

Caldwell then went to Oregon, where he was an Honorable Mention All-Big Ten selection after posting 29 tackles with 4.5 tackles, three pass breakups and a forced fumble in 2024.

And as long as Hortiz and Harbaugh are around, the Bolts will continue to invest in the trenches on both sides of the ball.

Round 3 was another example of that.
