The Los Angeles Chargers today elevated outside linebacker Clelin Ferrell and running back Kimani Vidal from the practice squad for Sunday's game.
Ferrell has started 57-of-89 career regular season games with the Raiders, 49ers and Commanders since being the No. 4 overall selection in the 2019 NFL Draft by Oakland. He's totaled 17 sacks, 156 tackles (82 solo), 12 pass breakups, 25 tackles for loss, four forced fumbles and two recoveries. Ferrell has appeared in four postseason games, recording four tackles (two solo) and a pass breakup. He played three seasons at Clemson (2016-18), playing in 44 games for the Tigers. He was a two-time first-team All-America selection from The Associated Press, finishing his career ranked fourth in program history with 27 sacks, adding 164 tackles (83 solo), five forced fumbles, a recovery and seven pass breakups. Ferrell will wear No. 57 for the Chargers.
A sixth-round pick of the Chargers in 2024 (181st overall), Vidal saw action in 10 games for the Bolts in his rookie season. He was a standard elevation for the Chargers in Week 4, marking the 11th game played of his career and returning a kickoff for 25 yards. Vidal hauled in a 38-yard touchdown catch on his first NFL touch, becoming the 11th player in team history to have a receiving score in an NFL debut. He finished his rookie campaign with 155 rushing yards on 43 attempts (3.6 avg.) and five receptions for 62 yards (12.4 avg.) and the touchdown.
Vidal appeared in 48 games over four seasons at Troy (2020-23), finishing his career as the program's all-time leader in rushing yards (4,010), attempts (781) and 200-yard rushing games (five), while tying for the most 100-yard rushing performances (14) and tying for No. 3 with 33 rushing touchdowns. The 2023 Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Year and third-team All-American added 92 receptions for 700 yards (7.6 avg.) and a touchdown. Vidal is the great-nephew of Baseball Hall of Famer and home run legend Hank Aaron.
