The Los Angeles Chargers today elevated tackle Foster Sarell and safety Marcus Williams from the practice squad for Saturday's game. In addition, the Chargers signed tight end Tanner McLachlan to the practice squad.
Sarell has made four starts in 41 regular-season games played for the Chargers since 2022, also appearing in a pair of postseason games for Los Angeles. He has appeared in six games this season for the Bolts, making a start at right guard in Week 9 at Tennessee. Sarell came into the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Baltimore Ravens in 2021 before joining the Bolts later that year. Sarell played four years (2017-20) at Stanford University, starting 17-of-34 games along the offensive front. He was part of Cardinal teams that appeared in two bowl games and, in 2019, started all 11 games at right tackle to earn honorable mention All-Pacific-12 recognition.
An eight-year veteran, Williams has been one of the most consistent safeties in the NFL throughout his career since entering as a second-round pick (42nd overall) by New Orleans in the 2017 NFL Draft. He has played in two games this season for the Chargers debut last week, posting seven tackles on defense (four solo). Williams has started 116-of-120 career games, including the postseason, with the Saints, Baltimore Ravens and Chargers. He was an All-Rookie selection by the Professional Football Writers of America after totaling four interceptions and 71 tackles in 2017. Williams was a two-time Pro Football Focus second-team All-Pro by Pro Football Focus, earning the recognitions in 2019 and 2021. Over the course of his NFL career, Williams has totaled 468 tackles (341 solo), five tackles for loss, 20 interceptions, 56 passes defensed, three fumble recoveries, a sack and a pick-six. He played 37 games over three seasons (2014-16) at Utah, earning first-team All-Pacific-12 recognition in 2015 and second-team Pro Football Focus All-America honors in 2016. Williams totaled 169 tackles (125 solo), 11 interceptions, eight pass breakups, four forced fumbles and three recoveries for the Utes.
McLachlan entered the NFL as a sixth-round pick by Cincinnati in 2024 (194th overall), seeing action in two games as a rookie for the Bengals. He has spent time on the Chargers' practice squad this season. McLachlan began his collegiate career at Southern Utah (2019-20) before finishing his final two seasons at Arizona (2022-23), totaling 94 receptions for 1,152 yards (12.3 avg.) and eight touchdowns in his 31 career games played for the Thunderbirds and Wildcats. He totaled 79 catches over his two seasons in Tucson, Ariz., the most in program history by a tight end. McLachlan was named an Associated Press second-team All-Pacific-12 recipient as a senior after hauling in 45 passes for 528 yards (12.5 avg.) and four touchdowns.
