The Los Angeles Chargers today placed defensive lineman Da'ShawnHand on Reserve/Injured. The team also signed tackle Bobby Hart to the active roster from the practice squad and elevated running back Nyheim Hines and tackle David Sharpe from the practice squad for Sunday's game.
Hart was a seventh-round choice by the New York Giants in the 2015 NFL Draft (226th overall), starting 67-of-98 career regular-season games with the Giants, Bengals, Titans and Bills. He started along a Giants line in 2016 that protected quarterback Eli Manning to throw for over 4,000 yards. While with the Bengals, he paved the way for running back Joe Mixon to top 1,000 in back-to-back seasons (2018-19) and protected quarterback Joe Burrow during his rookie season in 2020. Hart has appeared in three career postseason games.
Over a four-year career at Florida State (2011-14), Hart started 37 games, including the final 28 of his tenure at right tackle. He helped the Seminoles win the final BCS National Championship in 2013, blocking for an offense that set school and Atlantic Coast Conference records in total offense (7,267 yards), points per game (51.6), yards per play (7.67), total touchdowns (94), passing touchdowns (42) and the NCAA record for points scored (723). He was a third-team All-ACC selection in 2014, protecting future No. 1 overall pick and reigning Heisman Trophy-winner Jameis Winston, while also blocking for Dalvin Cook to become the first Seminole freshman running back to rush for 1,000 yards.
Hines, a former fourth-round pick by Indianapolis in the 2018 NFL Draft (104th overall), spent training camp with the Bolts and has been a dynamic returner in his five-year NFL career while adding offensive versatility. He has appeared in 81 regular-season games, making 17 starts at running back. Hines has posted 1,202 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns on 306 carries (3.9 avg.), while adding 240 receptions for 1,778 yards (7.4 avg.) and eight receiving scores on offense. On special teams, he has notched 89 punt returns for 1,015 yards (11.4 avg.) and a pair of touchdowns, while adding 32 kickoff returns for 817 yards (25.5 avg.) and two scores. Hines is a two-time AFC Special Teams Player of the Week winner, most recently in Week 18 of the 2022 season after returning two kickoffs for touchdowns.
Over three seasons on the gridiron at North Carolina State (2015-17), Hines appeared in 38 games, rushing for 1,399 yards and 13 touchdowns on 258 attempts (5.4 avg.). He added 89 career receptions for 933 yards (10.5 avg.) and a score. Hines earned first-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference honors and Sun Bowl MVP recognition for a career year in 2017, when he totaled 1,112 yards and 12 touchdowns on 197 rushing attempts (5.6 avg.) and added 26 catches for 152 yards (5.8 avg.). One of football's fastest players, Hines also ran track for the Wolfpack, earning All-America status in 2016 for the 4x100-meter relay. He won the outdoor 4x100-meter relay in back-to-back years (2016-17) and earned a total of four All-ACC honors in outdoor track and field.
Sharpe brings veteran experience to the Bolts, having played in 46 career games (six starts) with the Raiders, Houston, Washington, Baltimore and Carolina. He came into the NFL as a fourth-round pick by the Oakland Raiders (129th overall) in the 2017 NFL Draft out of the University of Florida. With the Gators, Sharpe played 33 games, including making 26 starts at left tackle. He helped Florida to winning seasons in each of his three years in Gainesville, Fla., including two appearances in the Southeastern Conference Championship Game.
