EMEKE EGBULE ROUND SIX TELECONFERENCE

Saturday, April 27, 2019 | Hoag Performance Center | Costa Mesa, Calif.

LOS ANGELES CHARGERS SIXTH-ROUND SELECTION LINEBACKER EMEKE EGBULE

On his potential defensive role:

"You can use me anywhere — third down, off the edge, in coverage, in the box. It doesn't matter. I do everything."

On where he feels most comfortable on the field:

"I played mostly in space off the ball, but I'll learn anything. I feel comfortable everywhere, honestly."

On how much contact he had with the Chargers in the pre-draft process:

"I didn't have as much contact [with the Chargers] as some other teams. It was kind of unexpected toward the end."

On heritage of his name:

"[It's] Nigerian. From Nigeria."

On what it means to be a Charger:

"It means everything. This is the next big step in my life and it's what I've been waiting on."

On being from Houston:

"Football here is big and It was everything to me since high school. I knew it's what I wanted to do, so going where I'm going now is going to be great."

On what he knows about the Chargers' defense and his new teammates:

"I actually had one my old teammates there, [Browns LB] D'Juan Hines last year. He told me a lot about [the Chargers] and I'm looking to start something new. They have a great defense and I'm ready to come in and be a part of that."

On playing with Bills DE Ed Oliver at Houston:

"He's a machine. Feeding off that energy is great. Everybody wants to play that way. That's why we won a lot of games."

On current NFL players he tries to emulate:

"[Panthers LB] Luke Kuechly and [Broncos OLB] Von Miller — mainly those guys. Luke Kuechly, he's just a mastermind. He can read offenses so easily and knows what's going to happen before it does. He's just on it every time. Von Miller, I pass-rushed and I would take some of his moves and see how he gets to the quarterback. It's basically that."

On if he was getting nervous as draft moved into later rounds:

"Honestly, I didn't know how to feel, but I tried to stay positive and I knew there were still a lot of guys left to get picked. I know I'm a great player, so I wasn't really thinking I was going to be undrafted or anything, but it all played out great and I'm happy to be where I'm going now."

On where he thought he was projected:

"Going in, I knew I was probably [in the] fourth to seventh [rounds], but once four, five, six went by I was a little skeptical. I just kept thanking God and believed in myself."

On his strongest traits as a player:

"I'm very versatile. I can do everything. I can cover. I can rush the passer. I can set the edge, play in the box. Really anything. There's not much I can't do."

On his current mentality:

"I'm ready to compete and learn a lot. That's really all it comes down to. I'm excited."

On what his name means:

"My name means a gift from God."
