The Chargers on Tuesday swung a trade with the Texans to acquire offensive tackle Austin Deculus.

The Bolts sent a 2027 conditional seventh-round pick to Houston.

Here are five things to know about Deculus:

1. Former 6th-round pick

The offensive tackle makes his way to the Chargers after being a recent late-round pick.

Deculus was selected in the sixth round of the 2022 NFL Draft (No. 205 overall) by the Texan and spent his rookie season in Houston.

He saw action as a rookie in Houston, primarily on special teams, and played in five games during his debut season.

2. Most recent stop

Deculus spent this past offseason with the Texans in his second stint with the team.

After signing to their active roster late last season, the 26-year-old spent training camp and the entire preseason in Houston as he played in all three of their preseason games.

Prior to joining the Texans, Deculus has had stops with the Jets and Saints in 2023 and 2024.

3. Playing experience

Deculus does have some in-game experience in the NFL — in both the regular season and postseason.

He's played in a total of 13 regular season games, all with the Texans, and started one of them as he's played both offense and special teams.

The tackle also saw action with the Texans in the postseason last year, playing in both of their games.

4. Storied LSU career

Deculus went down in the record books at LSU.

The tackle appeared in more games than any player in school history with 61, as he spent five total years with the Tigers.

He was a starter in four of them, becoming the only player in program history to play at least 60 games.

He ended his collegiate career with 46 starts, all at right tackle, and was a starter for the 2019 National Championship team.

5. Depth at tackle

This move now gives the Bolts some more depth at tackle following the roster cutdown deadline.

After losing Rashawn Slater for the season due to injury, Deculus now brings experience along the line and could be an option at swing tackle.

Deculus has played primarily at left tackle in his NFL career, including this past preseason, but does have experience at right tackle in previous years.
