Chargers Uniform History 1960-1984

The helmet was white with a gray face mask. It had a dark blue bolt and black numbers outlined in gold. The home jersey was Collegiate blue with white numbers on the front, back, and sleeves and were outlined in gold. A white strip on each shoulder had a dark blue bolt outlined in gold. The road jersey was white with Collegiate blue numbers on front, back, sleeves, and white lighting bolts on sleeves outlined in gold. A Collegiate blue stripe on each shoulder with a white bolt outlined in gold. The pants were white with a dark blue lightning bolt outlined in gold, running down each leg. Owner Barron Hilton chose lightning bolts because he associated "Charge" of lightning with lightning bolt.He also liked bolts because they were on the helmets of the Air Force Academy football team, but he wanted something slightly different. He then had the "Chargers Bolt" designed to be different and to be placed on uniforms.

Bolt on helmet, shoulders and pants are changed to gold. On home jersey, the helmet and pants have a blue-outlines bolt. On away jersey, the bolt is outlines in white.

Away jerseys got a blue outline on the outside of the numbers.

Bolt on helmet is changed to dark blue. Pants are changed to gold with solid white stripe running down each pant leg, outlined in blue. Stripe replaces lightning bolt.

Gold bolt is placed back on helmet with blue outline. Home jersey is a darker shade of blue and has white numbers on the front, back, and sleeves, along with a white stripe on each shoulder with a gold lightning bolt. Road jersey had darker blue numbers also on the front, back, and sleeves and a blue stripe on each shoulder with a gold lightning bolt. Lightning bolt is placed back on pant, dark blue and outlined white.

Home jersey is changed to Powder blue with white number on the front, back, and sleeves with a white stripe on each shoulder and a gold lightning bolt outlined in blue. Road jersey is still white with Powder blue numbers on front, back, and sleeves, and a Powder blue stripe on each shoulder with a gold lightning bolt outlined in white.

Lightning bolt on pants is again replaced by solid white stripe running down each leg, outlined in Powder blue.

The numbers on the home uniform are changed to gold and outlined in white. The numbers on the road uniform remain Powder blue and are outlined in gold.

Helmet is changed to navy blue with gold face mask and gold lightning bolt outlined in navy blue and white. Home jersey is white with royal blue numbers outlined in white and gold. The second jersey is royal blue and featured gold numbers on front, back and sleeves outlined in blue and white.
