Over his three-year tenure with the Dolphins (2023-25), McCaffrey spent time working with multiple positions across the offense, spending the 2025 season with the quarterbacks after tutoring running backs in 2024 and wide receivers in 2023. During his time with the running backs, McCaffrey helped De'Von Achane set franchise records for receptions (78) and receiving touchdowns (six) by a running back and totaling 1,499 yards from scrimmage, the fifth-most in a season in franchise history (907 rushing, 592 receiving). That year, Achane was the only NFL player to eclipse 900 yards running and 550 receiving yards.

McCaffrey contributed to an offensive staff in 2023 that coached the NFL's top offense, leading the league that season in total offense (401.3 net yards per game) and passing offense (265.5 net passing yards per game) while ranking No. 2 in scoring offense (29.2). That season, quarterback Tua Tagovailoa led the NFL in passing yards (4,624) and the Dolphins were just the 18th team in NFL history to boast a 4,000-yard passer, 1,000-yard rusher and two 1,000-yard receivers in the same season.

Prior to his time with the Dolphins, McCaffrey coached at the University of Northern Colorado under his father, former NFL wide receiver Ed McCaffrey, who was the Bears head coach. McCaffrey was tabbed to coach receivers in 2020, but the season was ultimately canceled due to COVID-19. He then was the team's offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach from 2021-22, helping the team lead the Big Sky Conference and rank 15th in the FCS by allowing just 1.18 sacks per game. In McCaffrey's second season leading the Bears offense, he coached running back Elijah Dotson to second-team All-Big Sky honors after ranking fourth in the conference with 928 rushing yards, eventually going on to sign with the Chargers as an undrafted free agent.

McCaffrey entered the NFL ranks as a player with the Oakland Raiders, signing as an undrafted free agent in 2016. He appeared in six career games with the Jacksonville Jaguars (2017) and San Francisco 49ers (2018). McCaffrey also spent time with the New Orleans Saints and Green Bay Packers. He lettered four seasons as a wide receiver at Duke University (2012-15), starting 38-of-53 games played and catching 117 passes for 1,341 yards (11.5 avg.) and 12 touchdowns.

A native of Castle Rock, Colo., McCaffrey is married to his wife, Kathleen. He is the eldest son of Ed McCaffrey, who won three Super Bowls as a wide receiver in the NFL for 13 seasons with the New York Giants (1991-93), San Francisco 49ers (1994) and Denver Broncos (1995-2003). McCaffrey is also the brother of San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey, former University of Michigan quarterback Dylan McCaffrey and Washington Commanders wide receiver Luke McCaffrey.
