Josh Hammond enters his third season with the Los Angeles Chargers and first as an assistant wide receivers/assistant special teams coach in 2026. He adds special teams responsibilities and continues his work with receivers that he over the last two seasons as an offensive assistant in 2025 and Alex G. Spanos Coaching Fellow in 2024.
Hammond continued to work with the wide receivers, helping the group contribute to a top-15 offense and 11-win season in 2025. He coached the Bolts to be the only NFL team in 2025 with three wide receivers to eclipse 50 catches, 700 yards and four touchdowns. Hammond helped wide receiver Quentin Johnston record his second-straight season with a team-best eight receiving scores, tied for the second-most in the AFC in 2025. He also helped wide receiver Ladd McConkey continue the impressive start to his career by tying a franchise record for the most receptions within the first two seasons of a career (148). Hammond worked with veteran wide receiver Keenan Allen, who returned to the Bolts to set the franchise receptions record (985) and eclipsed 1,000 career receptions in his 159th game, setting the all-time NFL mark for the fastest to reach that mark by more than 10 games. Allen continued his excellence on third down, leading the NFL in third-down receptions (34) and receiving first downs on third down (29).
In his first season with the Chargers, Hammond helped the offensive staff coach the NFL's top unit at protecting the football, committing just eight turnovers on the season, setting a franchise record and tying for the second-fewest offensive turnovers in a single season in NFL history. Hammond's work with the receivers helped Johnston to new heights in his second pro season, as the TCU product led the team with a career-high eight touchdown catches, while also setting career highs in receptions (55) and receiving yards (711). Hammond also helped onboard McConkey, who emerged as a premier receiving threat during his rookie season, setting franchise rookie records with a team-high 82 catches and 1,149 receiving yards, while also hauling in seven touchdowns.
Hammond played two seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars (2020-21), appearing in two games in 2021. He saw action in 2023 with the XFL's DC Defenders, starting 10 games and hauling in 34 passes for 331 yards (9.7 avg.) and a touchdown. Hammond also spent time with the Philadelphia Eagles, New England Patriots and Denver Broncos in the offseason.
Over four seasons at Florida (2016-19), Hammond played in 49 games and made 31 starts. He recorded 87 catches for 1,138 yards (13.1 avg.) and six touchdowns for the Gators, adding nine carries for 134 yards and a pair of scores. As a senior, Hammond had a 76-yard touchdown run and was one of just nine FBS players to record a run and a catch of at least 65 yards.
