Adam Fuller enters his second season with the Los Angeles Chargers in 2026 as safeties coach after spending the previous five seasons as defensive coordinator at Florida State University, where he developed 13 eventual NFL Draft selections. In his 26-year career as a collegiate coach, Fuller coached players to earn a combined 24 All-America recognitions.

In his first season with Los Angeles, Fuller coached a safeties group that helped the Chargers rank No. 5 in the NFL in both total defense (285.2 total net yards allowed per game) and passing defense (179.9 net passing yards allowed per game). The unit was also among football's most clutch, ranking inside the top five on third down (fifth) and in the red zone (fourth). Fuller coached the safeties group to total 10 interceptions, led by safety Tony Jefferson's team-high four picks. Safety Derwin James Jr., was close behind with three interceptions and ranked second on the team with 94 tackles (50 solo), adding a pair of sacks. James was recognized with the fifth Pro Bowl of his career and added Associated Press second-team All-Pro honors. He earned the first AFC Defensive Player of the Week of his career in the Week 3 victory over Denver after becoming the sixth NFL player and first defensive back since tackles for loss began being tracked in 2008 to have 10 solo tackles, a sack and four tackles for loss in a single game.

Fuller's five seasons at Florida State (2020-24) were highlighted by back-to-back 10-win seasons in 2022-23, including a 13-1 campaign in 2023 that saw the Seminoles participate in the Orange Bowl. He coached Jared Verse, who was eventually named the 2024 AP Defensive Rookie of the Year, to All-America campaigns in back-to-back years (2022-23). In 2022, Jammie Robinson also earned All-America honors and was the first Seminole with consecutive first-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference selections since Jalen Ramsey in 2014-15. Fuller also coached Jermaine Johnson II, who was the No. 26 overall selection by the New York Jets in the 2022 NFL Draft. Under Fuller's tutelage, Johnson was the 2021 ACC Defensive Player of the Year.

Fuller spent the 2019 season at Memphis as defensive coordinator, helping the Tigers to a program-record 12 wins. His defense showcased five All-American Athletic Conference recipients. As a unit, Memphis totaled 18 takeaways, returning two for touchdowns, making the Tigers one of just six teams in the country with multiple defensive scores in each season from 2016-19.

Prior to his time at Memphis, Fuller spent five years at Marshall University (2013-18), ending his time as defensive coordinator/safeties coach in 2018. That year, the team did not allow a 100-yard rusher all season and ranked No. 7 in the nation with 3.2 sacks per game and eighth in rushing defense, allowing just 104.2 yards per game. For his first five seasons with the Thundering Herd, Fuller was assistant head coach/linebackers coach, while also overseeing special teams, adding special teams coordinator to his title in 2017. Fuller coached all three specialists earned first-team All-Conference-USA in 2014, in addition to linebacker Neville Hewitt earning C-USA Defensive Player of the Year honors. The following season, another of Fuller's linebackers, Evan McKelvey, won conference Defensive Player of the Year.

Fuller lettered four years as a linebacker at Sacred Heart University (1994-97), earning All-America honors in 1996 before serving as a team captain his final season. He earned a bachelor's degree in criminal justice with a minor in sociology in 1998. Fuller earned a master's in secondary education from Wagner in 2001.

After his playing career, Fuller got into coaching in 1998 at Worcester Polytechnic Institute as a linebackers coach before a six-year stretch at Wagner College. He began as linebackers coach for the Seahawks from 1999-2000 before becoming special teams coordinator/defensive backs coach from 2001-03 and eventually adding co-defensive coordinator responsibilities in 2004.

Fuller then went on to coach three seasons at the University of Richmond (2005-07), beginning as defensive backs coach before moving to special teams coordinator/linebackers coach for his final two years with the Spiders. He was part of a coaching staff that led the program to a pair of FCS playoff appearances (2005, '07), including in 2007 when the Spiders made it to the semifinals. Following his time at Richmond, Fuller was hired as the head coach at Assumption College in Worcester, Mass., where he spent the 2008 season.

Over the next four seasons (2009-12), Fuller got his first experience as a full-time defensive coordinator, leading the unit at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. In his first season, the Mocs were the most improved unit in the FCS, allowing 25.7 points per game and 307.7 total yards per game — improving by over 12 points per game and 130 yards per game. The defense helped Chattanooga to six wins in three of Fuller's five seasons with the Mocs.

Fuller and his wife, Hope, have two sons, Jack and Aidan.
