Chargers Kickoff the Bolts Book Club Program
The Chargers Impact Fund celebrated the launch of its new program, Bolts Book Club, at the Boys and Girls Club Watts-Willowbrook Clubhouse. Chargers All-Pro Safety Derwin James Jr. and Cornerback Michael Davis joined the club members for a special reading session to encourage the students to read 20 minutes a day. In addition, the players participated and competed in a friendly competition using words learned through the digital platform, Rhymes with Reason, which teaches vocabulary through music.
Chargers Rookie Class Host Play 60 for Long Beach Elementary Schools
The Chargers, along with players Tuli Tuipulotu, Scott Matlock, Jordan McFadden, Terrell Bynum, CJ Okoye, and AJ Finley, hosted a Play 60 camp for over 200 3rd and 4th-grade students from Bobby Smith and Riley Elementary schools in Long Beach. The Play 60 event took place at Veterans Stadium, the home of Long Beach City College. For more than 15 years, the NFL Play 60 initiative has served as the league's national Youth Health and Wellness platform, empowering youth to engage in physical activity for at least 60 minutes a day and encouraging a healthy lifestyle. The PLAY 60 Movement continues to inspire and motivate the next generation of youth, working alongside our Play 60 partners to get them moving and playing for 60 minutes each day.
Introducing River, the newest Chargers Pup in partnership with Paws for Life K9 Rescue
The Chargers visited California Medical Facility to observe Chargers Pup, River, in training and meet with prison administration and Paws for Life K9 Rescue dog trainers. Beginning in 2020, the Chargers Pup program has followed a service animal in training to highlight the importance of these dogs for people with disabilities. River is specifically being trained to become a service animal for a military Veteran with PTSD and will be the face of the team's animal welfare work this season.
Chargers and the Chargers Impact Fund Distribute 750 Meals at 122nd St. Elementary School
Defensive lineman, Sebastian Joseph-Day, joined the Chargers and the Chargers Impact Fund to host a special assembly and distribute 750 meals to the 600+ students at 122nd St. Elementary School. In an effort to combat food insecurity in Los Angeles, the Impact Fund partnered with nonprofit, Blessings in a Backpack, to distribute these meals since they will provide essential nourishment during the weekends when students do not have access to school lunches.
Third Bolt Academy Cohort Celebrated at SoFi Stadium
Presented by SoFi, Bolt Academy is a collaborative partnership between the Los Angeles Chargers Impact Fund, Inglewood Unified School District, and Brotherhood Crusade, a nonprofit building power in South L.A. for over 50 years, created to prepare students for careers. The group came together at SoFi Stadium to celebrate the young scholars from the Bolt Academy who successfully completed and graduated from the program.
Chargers Host Youth Football Teams at NFL Network
The Chargers extended invitations to the Inglewood Chargers, Crenshaw Cougars, and Lynwood Jr. Knights from the Snoop Youth Football League to take part in NFL Network's Kickoff Eve coverage. The players had the opportunity to interact with the show's hosts and were featured in the entire live broadcast on NBC.
Bolts Community Crew & Chargers Impact Fund Team Up with Blessings in a Backpack
Chargers players Sebastian Joseph-Day, JT Woods, Ja'Sir Taylor, Tanner Muse, Christian Covington, and CJ Okoye joined the Bolts Community Crew, Chargers staff and Chargers Impact Fund board members to help pack 750 bags of food items to be distributed to 122nd Street Elementary School students through the nonprofit Blessings in a Backpack
Chargers Host Inaugural Girls' Flag Invitational Presented by Oakley
The Chargers launched their inaugural invitational to kick off the Opening Weekend of girls' flag football. This event marked a momentous occasion, serving as the first officially sanctioned girls' flag football games in the state of California. Fifteen teams from across Southern California gathered at the Chargers Training Camp Site, Jack Hammett Sports Complex, to participate in this historic event. The lineup featured eight teams from the Los Angeles area, five from Orange County, and two from San Diego, showcasing the growing popularity and inclusivity of girls' flag football. The event was co-hosted by San Juan Hills High School and sponsored by Oakley.
Chargers Host Girl Scouts at HPC for Flag Football Camp
The Chargers partnered with Girls Scouts of Orange County to host a flag football event at the Hoag Performance Center. Cadettes, Seniors, and Ambassadors from troops in Orange and Los Angeles County took place in the three-hour camp where they learned flag football fundamentals and played scrimmage games. The participating athletes all received custom Chargers Girls Flag patches.
Chargers & LA Bowl Host Girls' Flag Football Event at SoFi Stadium
The Chargers in collaboration with the LA Bowl hosted a flag football Skills & Drills camp at SoFi Stadium, welcoming 185 local middle school and high school female athletes. This two-hour camp taught flag football fundamentals and served as a source of inspiration for the young girls from Inglewood and nearby communities.
Chargers Host Flag Camp in Support of Mattel's Play it Forward Week
The Chargers organized a flag football skills and drills camp exclusively for Girls, Inc. to support Mattel's Play it Forward Global Volunteer Week. Held at the Mattel Headquarters in El Segundo, the all-day event brought together 50 participants from Girls, Inc. and 250 from the Boys & Girls Club of Carson. All 300+ participants were surprised with a Chargers Little People set. The event was attended by several other Los Angeles professional teams, including the Lakers, Dodgers, LAFC, Kings, and Sparks.
Chargers Host Nike 11-ON Event at Hoag Performance Center
The Chargers and Nike collaborated to bring forth the highly anticipated 11-ON event held at Hoag Performance Center. Over the course of two days, this event showcased the essence of teamwork, gathering 30 teams and over 750 athletes from across Southern California. The event proudly featured both girls' flag and tackle football teams, creating an inspiring celebration of high school football and its spirited community.
Chargers Host NFL Flag Regional Tournament
The Chargers hosted an NFL Flag Regional Tournament, sponsored by Oakley, with over 450 athletes aged 8-17 participating. The winning teams from each age group earned Oakley glasses and the opportunity to represent the Chargers at the 2024 NFL Flag Championships during the Pro Bowl Games.
