AFC West Rival Roundup: Chiefs Make a Major Trade

Throughout the offseason, we'll take a whirl around the AFC West to keep track of what the Chargers' rivals are up to.

Denver Broncos

The Broncos were in the spotlight last week as their coaching staff guided the North at the Senior Bowl. Denver has openly talked about the need to improve the quarterback position, and they got an up close and personal look at two of the top QB prospects in Wyoming's Josh Allen and Oklahoma's Baker Mayfield.

Meanwhile, linebacker Von Miller showed why he is one of the most dangerous edge rushers in the game, taking home Defensive MVP honors in the Pro Bowl. Miller sealed the win for the AFC with a strip-sack of Rams' QB Jared Goff to cement the 24-23 come-from-behind victory.

Kansas City Chiefs

While it won't be finalized until the new league year commences on March 14, the Chiefs reportedly agreed to a trade to send QB Alex Smith to the Washington Redskins for a third-round pick and CB Kendall Fuller.

Smith has given the Bolts fits in recent years, but now the team will face off against Patrick Mahomes, who Kansas City gave up 2017 first and third-round picks and a 2018 first-rounder for in the 2017 NFL Draft. The Chiefs are also getting back an impressive, young cornerback in Fuller who will enter his third season at only 23-years old.

In addition, the league announced that the Chiefs will join the Chargers and Raiders in playing an international game in 2018 as they'll play the Rams in Mexico City.

Oakland Raiders

The big news this offseason for the Raiders was the hiring of Jon Gruden as head coach. Gruden continues to put his staff together, as the team announced Brian Callahan will be their new QB coach. He recently spent the past few seasons coaching the likes of Peyton Manning in Denver and Matthew Stafford in Detroit.

Meanwhile, down at the Pro Bowl, Derek Carr impressed as he won the Precision Passing Challenge. It's the same event Philip Rivers won last season in its first year in existence.
