The Los Angeles Chargers announced on Friday that QB Philip Rivers has been cleared to play this weekend vs. the Buffalo Bills by an independent neurological consultant.
Rivers had been in the concussion protocol since Monday when he self-reported concussion symptoms following the Week 10 date in Jacksonville. He practiced on a limited basis Wednesday before participating in full on Thursday and Friday.
Head Coach Anthony Lynn had expressed optimism throughout the week that number 17 would indeed suit up, though noting it would ultimately come down to if he was medically cleared. One of the toughest quarterbacks in the game, Rivers has started 185 consecutive regular season games, which is the second-longest streak of any current QB after Eli Manning (208).
