Mailbag: How Many Chargers are on IR?

Q:  Can you name every player that's been placed on IR since the beginning of the season? – Joy Willis

A: Quite a few people have asked for all the Bolts lost for the season since Week 1, so here is the full list in reverse chronological order.  I can't believe I had to type up so many names, and that doesn't even include Branden Oliver, Stevie Johnson, Jeff Cumberland, Donavon Clark and others injured during training camp and the preseason.   Overall, there are 19 players on reserve, but here are those suffered in-season:

CB Brandon Flowers (concussion)
OLB Jerry Attaochu (ankle)
NT Brandon Mebane (biceps)
RB Dexter McCluster (forearm; non-football injury)
DE Caraun Reid (knee)
ILB Nick Dzubnar (knee)
CB Jason Verrett (knee)
ILB Manti Te'o (Achilles)
RB Danny Woodhead (knee)
WR Keenan Allen (knee)

Q:  I have Melvin Gordon in fantasy.  Should I start Kenneth Farrow this week? – Drevain Johnson

A: There must have been a record number this week for the same question as so many of you want to know whether to start Farrow in your fantasy lineups over Gordon.  I have never answered a fantasy question in all my years doing this mailbag for one reason -  I generally don't care about anyof your fantasy teams!  Yes, it's fun to play, but when fans start rooting for players over teams, I draw my line.  Anyway, end of rant.  In regards to Gordon and Farrow, while I won't give you advice on who to play, I'll point out that Head Coach Mike McCoy called it "extremely unlikely" that Gordon suits up this week. Number 28 himself said he is targeting Week 16 at Cleveland to return, so do what you please with that info.

Q:  Hey Ricky! Trovon Reed had such a spectacular pick last week.  With Brandon Flowers now on IR, how do you see Reed carving out a larger role in the secondary? – Jay O'Donnell

A: That really was dang spectacular.  It's unfortunate they called the pick-six back, but to come up with the interception in the end zone during his very first NFL snaps on defense is quite impressive.  Of all the positions on the field, I believe cornerback most requires one quality Trovon has in droves – major swag.  The way he practices and conducts himself, you'd never imagine that he first took the field in Week 12.  Even then, he was only on special teams.  With Flowers on IR and the status of Craig Mager up in the air with a shoulder injury, it's safe to say we should see more of Reed in the coming weeks.  He certainly announced himself with authority in Carolina.
