Keenan Allen Shows Out on Day Four

A diving catch for a touchdown during the red zone period.

A toe-tapping snare over the defender during one-on-ones.

A picture perfect route to find the soft spot in the defense to haul in an easy big gain during 7-on-7s.

Keenan Allen didn't have to say it after he came off the field on Wednesday, but he did anyway.

"That was my best day."

The fourth-year receiver showed out on the fourth day of training camp, eliciting constant cheers from the 900 Season ticket Members in attendance.  KA13 has made a number of highlight-reel catches all camp long, it was clear he felt most comfortable this afternoon.

"I felt light out there," he said.  "I sensed I'd have a good day even from breakfast.  Sometimes you feel it, and today I felt it.  And I could feel the love from the fans, too.  Seeing those 13 jerseys and the way they cheered, today was great."

Allen's big day also coincided with the debut of one of the biggest crowd pleasers each year at training camp; wide receivers going one-on-one against the defensive backs.

"It's one of my favorites," Allen said.  "It helps me work on technique and quarterback timing.  It also helps get a feel for the route in games if it is man or zone coverage.  But I also like it because the wide receiver has the advantage and it is easy to win!"

That perhaps contributed to a strong overall day by the wide receivers, which also saw big plays from Tyrell Williams, Isaiah Burse and DeAndre Reaves among others.  Newcomer James Jones also got his feet wet, catching a pass in the corner of the end zone for a TD in one-on-ones.  After, he commented on his first impression of Allen and the Chargers wide receivers.

"It's a very athletic group," he said.  "I've seen the guys out there running routes and catching balls today; a very athletic group, very humble group and hungry group.  You could tell they are very excited and want to get better.  Anything they want from me any time they need to ask questions; I'm going to be here for them.  That's what a veterans supposed to do.  That's what Donald Driver did with me.  So anything I can give back to those guys wisdom wise to get better I'm going to try to do."
