Prospect Profile: Mackensie Alexander

A look at Clemson's cornerback Mackensie Alexander in action on the field and at the combine.

In order to familiarize fans with some of the top names in the 2016 NFL Draft, Chargers.com will be highlighting a different prospect each weekday leading up to the first day of the draft on April 28th.

We continue the series with a scouting report of Clemson CB Mackensie Alexander.

Mackensie Alexander lacked ideal production at Clemson.

According to scouts and pundits, it's because opposing quarterbacks were too afraid to challenge him.

After redshirting the 2013 campaign due to a groin injury, the cornerback was named a Freshman All-American in 2014 before earning third-team All-American honors and becoming a first-team All-ACC pick last season.  He had only 11 passes defensed with no interceptions over two seasons with the Tigers, but that was mainly because few QBs were willing to throw his way.

What Alexander lacks in ideal size is more than made up for in pure toughness. The 5-10, 190-pound cornerback is as feisty as they come, as scouts consider him one of the top cover corners available in this year's draft.  Alexander loves to mix it up with the opposition and get under their skin.  A smooth athlete with quick feet who is sticky in coverage, he is at his best playing man-to-man.

While some would like to see Alexander improve his technique, they believe his skills will further refine under NFL tutelage.  Overall, many believe he possesses one of the highest ceilings for a prospect this year.
