Former NFL tight end Alfredo Roberts is in his third season with the Chargers. A long-time NFL assistant coach who has worked primarily with tight ends, this marks Roberts’ first stint coaching running backs. In his second season as the Bolts’ running backs coach, the rushing attack averaged 117.1 yards-per-game, the most by a Chargers offense since 2013. Roberts coached Melvin Gordon to his second Pro Bowl as he posted 1,375 scrimmage yards for his third-straight campaign with at least 1,300 yards from scrimmage. He tutored running backs Austin Ekeler, Justin Jackson and Detrez Newsome to be key contributors to the offense down the stretch in the running and passing games.
