STATEMENT BY PRESIDENT GEORGE W. BUSH ON THE PASSING OF ALEX SPANOS
Laura and I send our condolences to the Spanos family on the death of their beloved patriarch, Alex Spanos. Alex was one-of-a-kind. Born to Greek immigrants in California, he worked at the family bakery as a child and served as a B-29 tail gunner during World War II. When he came back to California, he worked so hard selling sandwiches that he was able to start a successful real estate company and realize the American dream. He was a wonderful citizen and friend, and the Bush family will miss him.
