Captain David Pham is a native of Savannah, Georgia. In 2006, he accepted the Marine Corps NROTC scholarship to attend the Georgia Institute of Technology. He graduated from Georgia Tech with a Bachelor of Science in Business Management and commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps in May 2010.
Upon completion of The Basic School and Infantry Officer Course in April 2011, Lieutenant Pham reported to 1st Battalion, 8th Marines in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. He was assigned as the Rifle Platoon Commander for Charlie Company 2d Platoon.
In January 2012, Lieutenant Pham deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom 12.1. Upon arrival to Afghanistan, Charlie Company took charge of patrol base and security operations in Upper Sangin Valley, executed helicopter raids in Now Zad District, and performed long duration counterinsurgency operations in Washir and Kajaki Districts. Returning from deployment, he was assigned as the Executive Officer for Charlie Company. He volunteered for an individual augment billet heading back to Afghanistan as a team leader for a Kandak advisor team with Advisor Training Cell (ATC). Once the mission was cancelled, Captain Pham returned to 1st Battalion, 8th Marines and assumed command of Charlie Company.
In May of 2013, he was frocked to his current rank and selected to assemble, train, and equip a team to execute embassy reinforcement operations in Northern Africa, the situation deescalated before the team deployed. In September of 2013, Captain Pham was selected to be the Aide-de-Camp for MajGen James W. Lukeman, Commanding General of 2d Marine Division. After one year of his duties, he attended the Army’s Basic Jump School and Maneuver Captains Career Course.
In May of 2015 Captain Pham reported to The Basic School and was assigned as the Primary Instructor for Platoon Package, Maneuver Section, Warfighting Instructor Group. Captain Pham was a Staff Platoon Commander for 3d Platoon, Charlie Company 3-16 and Executive Officer for Bravo Company 2-17 and Alpha Company 1-18. He then reported to Camp Pendleton, California where he served at the Company Commander for Headquarters Company, 5th Marine Regiment and Echo Company, 2d Battalion, 4th Marines where he and his Marines deployed to the United States southwest border in support of border security operations.
Captain Pham’s personal decorations include the Purple Heart, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal x 2, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal w/ combat distinguishing device, and Combat Action Ribbon.
The Military Hero of the Week presented by California Resources Corporation was created to acknowledge the heroic efforts and sacrifices made by our U.S. service members, veterans and their families. Each week of the Regular Season the Los Angeles Chargers will honor a Military Hero. The honored service member will receive four tickets to a Chargers home game where he or she will be recognized on-field.
