Career StatsA fearless competitor who’s become a solid contributor on special teams, Tim Dobbins’ 12 tackles in 2007 tied for third on the squad. Dobbins is a compact and powerful inside linebacker that the Chargers selected in the fifth-round of the 2006 NFL Draft. While his defensive reps have been limited, Dobbins has become one of the team’s top special teams players.
Off the field, Dobbins is mature beyond his years. Tim and his wife, Amanda, have two daughters, Timera and Anna. His hobbies include bowling, golf, pool, skydiving, working out, white-water rafting and riding dirt bikes. He also enjoys watching movies with his family, particularly action films. Though he no longer maintains his collection, as a child Tim collected coins with his grandmother, the late Mary McKinney.

2008: Saw significant action Week 2 at Denver, splitting time with Matt Wilhelm at ILB…recorded five tackles, including four-yard tackle for loss on final play of first quarter…set up Chargers’ first touchdown of Week 3 MNF game against New York Jets with forced fumble of Thomas Jones…Quentin Jammer recovered and returned to 16-yard line and five plays later, Bolts scored to take 10-7 lead…in second quarter, made nice special teams tackle on kickoff back at 17-yard line…poor starting position helped lead to Brett Favre to Eric Weddle interception that Chargers would convert into touchdown and 31-14 lead on ensuing possession…was one of two special teams tackles on night…third quarter interception Week 4 at Oakland would lead to Chargers’ first touchdown of game, helping Bolts erase 15-0 deficit…team scored TD after interception to get within 15-10 before going on to win, 28-18…seeing more and more action at inside linebacker, led team with 12 tackles Week 5 at Miami…started first-career game at inside linebacker in NBC Sunday Night Football game Week 6 vs. New England…paced squad with 13 tackles and forced fumble in Week 8 NFL International Series game against New Orleans in London…popped ball loose from Devery Henderson in second quarter but Saints were able to recover…shared team high of 11 tackles with Eric Weddle Week 12 vs. Atlanta…he and Brandon Siler combined to engineer second-quarter goal-line stand with third and fourth-down tackles for no gain from one-yard-line late just before halftime.
2007: Logged extensive playing time and recorded nine stops at inside linebacker after Matt Wilhelm left contest in first quarter with calf injury…recovered muffed kickoff late in second quarter against Baltimore Nov. 25 as Bolts tacked on late first-half field goal to take 22-7 lead…huge day on special teams Dec. 16 vs. Detroit, forcing fumble and tying Jyles Tucker for team-high with three tackles…recorded FF on kickoff after Chargers scored on opening drive of third quarter…Bolts tacked on field goal after recovering fumble for 44-7 lead…led team with pair of unassisted special teams tackles in AFC Championship Game at New England.
2006: Played Weeks 1-16 and in playoff game, primarily on special teams...tied Matt Wilhelm for team lead with two special teams tackles in Week 2...led squad with two special teams stops Week 3 at Baltimore...added two more ST stops at SF Week 5...led team with pair of special teams stops at Buffalo Dec. 3...logged two special teams stops in Dec. 10 win over Denver...collected two special teams tackles Week 15 at Seattle...scored first-career touchdown when he recovered muffed punt in end zone in Dec. 31 season finale against Arizona...score gave Bolts 24-7 lead in third quarter.
COLLEGE: Two-time All-Big 12 selection at Iowa State, earning first-team honors as senior in 2005 and honorable mention recognition as junior in 2004…Big 12 Defensive Newcomer of Year in 2004…started every game for Cyclones…spent 2002-03 seasons at Copiah-Lincoln Junior College in Mississippi…all-state honorable mention in Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges after 2003 season in which he returned 48-yard interception and 44-yard fumble for touchdowns…finished JC career with 210 tackles, 13 sacks and four interceptions…played at Iowa State from 2004-05…sociology major.
