Bio

Wright (5-11, 182) is a second-year cornerback out of Southern California. The Chargers selected him in the third round of the 2011 NFL Draft

Shareece Wright had what amounted to a learning year in his rookie season with the Chargers. He played sparingly in seven games, seeing the majority of his action on special teams. The Southern California native is looking forward to his second year and a chance to contribute regularly in the team’s secondary.

In 2011, Wright partnered with the Junior Diabetes Foundation. The daughter of his football coach from Colton High School has the disease, which inspired Wright to help. Last September, Wright threw out the first pitch at a San Diego Padres game to introduce his partnership with the foundation.

The Chargers also stayed close to home with their second of two picks in the third round, grabbing Southern Cal’s Wright, a native of Colton, California, near Los Angeles.

Wright, who won three Rose Bowl rings with the Trojans, missed most of the 2008 and ’09 seasons due to injury and academic issues, but came back with a strong performance as a senior in 2010, racking up a career-high 73 tackles and 13 passes defensed.

TRANSACTION HISTORY: Third-round pick (82), April 29, 2011...signed four-year contract, July 30.

COLLEGE: Team captain as fifth-year senior in 2010...granted medical redshirt in 2008...academically ineligible for 2009 regular-season...re-instated for Emerald Bowl vs. Boston College and sealed 24-13 win with INT...finished career with 127 TTs, 3.5 sacks, 8.5 TFLs, four FRs, one INT and 13 PBUs...also 24 career STTs and one blocked FGA...played at Southern California from 2006-10...sociology major.

PERSONAL: Born in San Bernardino, Calif....All-America, All-CIF and All-Citrus Belt League DB and RB at Colton (Calif.) HS...scored 34 TDs and recorded 170 tackles, four sacks and three INTs over final two seasons...played G and F on basketball team.
