Bio

The Chargers announced their fifth signing in five days, inking former Pittsburgh Steelers tight end David Johnson to a two-year contract on March 12, 2014.

A seventh-round pick by Pittsburgh (241 overall) in 2009, Johnson spent the last five seasons in the “Steel City,” where he played in 52 games with 26 starts, totaling 22 catches for 216 yards and a touchdown. He played in 47 of 48 games his first three seasons with the Steelers, including starts in all 16 contests in 2011 when he set career highs with 12 catches, 91 yards and a touchdown. The last two seasons, however, Johnson was limited to just five games with two starts, missing the entire 2012 season with a knee injury and then missing 11 games in 2013 due to a wrist injury.

A native of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, Johnson played collegiately at Arkansas State. He will be 27 years old when the 2014 NFL season kicks off in September.
