Nelson, 6-2, 240 pounds is a first-year player from New Mexico State. He went to training camp with New Orleans in 2011 and later spent time on Kansas City’s practice squad. Nelson spent the 2012 offseason with San Francisco and was released at the end of training camp. He later spent a week on Philadelphia’s practice squad.
Nelson was a long snapper and tight end at New Mexico State where he played in 50 career games, catching 66 passes for 559 yards and a pair of touchdowns. His grandfather, Roger Nelson, played 13 years in the Canadian Football League with the Edmonton Eskimos and his father, Mark, played in the CFL for nine years and is now the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach for the Eskimos.
