Korey Toomer’s career took a giant leap forward in 2016. Primarily a special teams performer his first three seasons in Dallas, St. Louis and Oakland, Toomer found a home with the Chargers in 2016 as he appeared in 13 games while starting eight after being signed off the Raiders’ practice squad.
Toomer finished 2016 third on the squad with 69 total tackles. He did a solid job filling in the statistic sheet as he complemented his tackles with a sack, nine tackles for loss and three forced fumbles.
Toomer had an outstanding November as he helped the Bolts to a 2-1 mark for their best month of the season. He started the month with a team-high 11-tackle effort on Nov. 6 vs. Tennessee. In that same game, he forced a fumble that safety Dwight Lowery returned 36 yards for a touchdown to give the Bolts a 33-21 lead. A week later vs. Miami, he was named a team captain for the Dolphins game and Toomer responded with a season-high four tackles for loss among eight stops. Then two weeks on Nov. 27 after the Chargers’ bye, Toomer racked up a career-best and team-leading 14 tackles in a 21-13 win at Houston.
