The Chargers uniform has under gone many slight variations through the years. Below is a brief history sighting the most notable points in the evolution of the Chargers uniform.
The helmet was white with a gold bolt outlined in black. The player number was listed in black on each side of the helmet. The face mask was gray.
The home jersey was Collegiate blue with white numbers outlined in gold. The jersey had numbers on the sleeves with the same color scheme. There was a white strip on each shoulder encasing a gold bolt outlined in Collegiate blue.
The away jersey was white with Collegiate blue numbers outlined in gold and had numbers on the sleeves with the same color scheme. The shoulder cuffs had a Collegiate blue strip encasing a gold bolt outlined in white.
The pants were white with a gold lightning bolt outlined in blue running down each leg.
The pants changed to gold with a blue bolt outlined in white down the sides.
The helmet changed color to Royal blue with a gold bolt outlined in Royal and white. The face mask was gold.
The home jersey became Royal blue with gold numbers outlined in blue and white. The sleeves had similar numbers. A gold bolt outlined in Royal blue on a white strip adorned the shoulder.
The away jersey was white with Royal blue numbers outlined in gold. The jersey had similar numbers on the sleeves. The shoulders had a Royal blue strip encasing a gold bolt outlined in blue and white.
The pants remained the same.
The bolt on pants becomes white outlined in blue. The white bolt is outlined in blue.
The white bolt on the pants is placed inside a blue strip.
The home jersey changed to Navy blue with gold numbers outlined in Navy and white with similar numbers on the sleeves. The shoulders were gold bolts outlined in Navy inside a white strip.
The away jersey was white with Navy blue numbers outlined in white and gold with similar numbers on the sleeve. The shoulders were gold bolts with a Navy and gold outline inside a Navy strip.
The pants were white with a gold bolt outlined in Navy and white inside a Navy strip.
The bolt in the helmet and on the shoulder changes from gold to white outlined in Navy and gold. Face mask from gold to navy.
The white strip on the Navy jersey shoulder is removed, leaving only a white bolt outlined in Navy and gold.
The bolt on the pants is removed and replaced by a Navy strip outlined in white and gold.
The away pants changed to Navy with a white strip outlined in Navy and gold stripes on both sides of the white stripe.
The white lightning bolt is returned to the pants. On the home white pants, it is outlined in Navy blue and gold and is in a blue strip down each pant leg. On the road Navy blue pants, there is just a white lightning bolt outlined in Navy blue and gold down each pant leg. There is no strip on the road pants.
The Chargers' new uniforms feature Navy blue jerseys and white pants for most home games, white jerseys and Navy pants for road games, and Powder blue jerseys with white pants for designated home games. On all the jerseys, the bolt has been moved down the sleeve, below the shoulder. The bolt is Gold and outlined in both powder blue and Navy. On the Navy and Powder blue jerseys, the bolt is in a white strip and on the white jerseys, the bolt is in a Navy blue strip. The numbers are now on the shoulder above the bolt. The front of all the jerseys have Chargers scripted across the front above the numbers and below the NFL shield. The team name, the numbers and the player’s names all feature a new font. The home white pants feature a strip down the side of each pant leg with a curved bolt in a Navy strip to be worn with the Navy jerseys and a Powder blue strip to be worn with the Powder blue jerseys. The Navy pants feature the same bolt inside of a white strip down each pant leg. The helmet is changed to metallic-white that features a Gold bolt which is outlined in both Powder blue and Navy.
