Texas vs. Nation College All-Star Game, Eagle Stadium, Allen, Texas.
Broadcast: Fox
A former national champion quarterback at Western Kentucky, Jason Michael took the ball and kept running in San Diego as under his direction Antonio Gates was named to an eighth-straight Pro Bowl after leading the team with 64 catches. The Chargers only carried three tight ends in 2011 but they played an important role as Randy McMichael started 14 games and Kory Sperry four as the Chargers routinely operated in two and three-tight end sets.
Michael has coached both quarterbacks and tight ends. In 2005, he was an offensive quality control coach and video assistant on Norv Turner’s coaching staff in Oakland. In both New York and San Francisco, Michael coached quarterbacks, working with Chad Pennington and Alex Smith, respectively.
Michael was born in Portsmouth, Ohio and graduated from Lawrence County High School in Louisa, Kentucky. He led Western Kentucky to the 2002 NCAA I-AA championship with a 34-14 win over McNeese State, and was named the school’s Male Athlete of the Year in 2003. Michael graduated from WKU with a degree in civil engineering technology while being named a I-AA Athletic Directors Academic All-Star and a second-team Verizon Academic All-District IV honoree.
Michael is married to his wife Jamie.
