Bio

Working alongside John Pagano, Williams has helped mentor one of the NFL’s top linebacking corps. Led by Shaun Phillips, a first-time Pro Bowler in 2010, linebackers accounted for 27 of the Chargers’ 47 sacks in 2010, just one behind AFC Champion Pittsburgh for the NFL lead.

Working alongside John Pagano, Williams has helped mentor one of the NFL’s top linebacking corps. Led by Shaun Phillips, a first-time Pro Bowler in 2010, linebackers accounted for 27 of the Chargers’ 47 sacks in 2010, just one behind AFC Champion Pittsburgh for the NFL lead. San Diego led the NFL in total defense in 2010 and the linebackers helped hold 10 of 16 opponents to under 100 yards on the ground.

A former standout wide receiver and defensive back at the University of North Carolina, Williams played in four bowl games as a Tar Heel and two of his college squads finished their respective seasons ranked in the Top-10. After graduating with a degree in sociology, Williams went to training camp with the Chicago Bears and New York Giants, and played in NFL Europe, the XFL and the Arena Football League.

Williams began coaching in 2003 as an intern at Arizona State. He is a native of Bolingbrook, Illinois, and a graduate of Bolingbrook HS, where he was a standout in football, basketball and track. Williams is married to Valarie.
