A former NFL Europe, XFL and Arena League wide receiver and defensive back, Williams now shares his expertise as an assistant with the secondary. He spent the last four seasons assisting with the team’s linebackers and a player from that position led the team in sacks in all four of Williams’ seasons, including 2012 when Shaun Phillips paced the squad with 9.5.
A native of Bolingbrook, Ill., Williams graduated from Bolingbrook High before moving on to the University of North Carolina where he excelled as a wide receiver and defensive back. He played in four bowl games as a Tar Heel and two of his college squads finished their respective seasons ranked in the Top-10. After graduating with a degree in sociology, Williams went to training camp with the Chicago Bears and New York Giants before playing in NFLE, the XFL and the AFL.Williams made the move to coaching in 2003 as an intern at Arizona State. He landed his first full-time job as an assistant at the College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, Ill. in 2004 and his first NFL job when he came to work for the Chargers in 2009.
Williams and wife, Valarie, have a son, Junior David, who was born in June 2012.
