Reyes: We know we can do better

Posted Dec 12, 2012

DE Kendall Reyes talks to the media after practice

Defensive End Kendall Reyes

On how the loss of Vaughn Martin will impact the defensive line:

“We just have to step up. Vaughn is a great player and we have big shoes to fill.”

On rotating a lot of players so does Vaughn’s absence create more snaps for the other defensive linemen:

“Yea definitely.”

On what he sees when he watches Cam Newton on film:

“He has great poise. He has good control over the offense. He is a dynamic player and we definitely have to bring our ‘A’ game this weekend.”

On facing much read option last year in college:

“Oh of course, I’m from the Big East. Pretty much everyone ran that. West Virginia is really known for that. They are not in the Big East anymore but they were when I was there. Also South Florida.”

On the challenge of facing the Panthers as a defensive end:

“Everyone just has to do their job and not try to do anyone else’s job, just yours. If that happens we should be OK.”

On a danger of pursuing a guy like Cam Newton:

“He is definitely a dynamic athlete. We really have to bring it this week and be aware of his athleticism.”

On it being tough to bring down Cam Newton because he is so big and strong:

“He is a big guys. It is defensive backs and linebackers that mostly have trouble bringing him down. I feel like I should be OK.”

On the performance defensive unit overall:

“We have been playing pretty well. We can always play better. Especially myself, I can always play better. That was the expectation as a unit. Even when we play well we feel like it wasn’t well enough because we know we can do better. That is the type of attitude we have going into every week.”
