Offensive linemen Troutman and Dombrowski eligible to return to practice

Posted Nov 6, 2012

San Diego Chargers offensive linemen Johnnie Troutman (pectoral) and Brandyn Dombrowski (foot) have been designated as “Returned to Practice” in a move from the “Reserve-Physically Unable to Perform” and “Reserve-Non-Football Injury” lists, respectively. Today was the last day for NFL teams to start the 21-day practice window for players who had been on either list.

The team’s fifth round draft choice this year out of Penn State, Troutman is an imposing 6-foot-4, 330-pound offensive guard. He started the last three seasons for the Nittany Lions without allowing a sack and was a 2011 All-Big Ten honorable mention selection.  He injured his pectoral prior to the draft and underwent successful surgery in April.  The injury caused Troutman’s stock to drop in the draft, but the Chargers saw enough potential in him to select him in the fifth round.

Dombrowski has missed the entire season with a foot injury.  The versatile 6-foot-5, 323-pounder is in his fifth season with the Chargers and has suited up at right guard, right tackle and left tackle during his career.  Dombrowski has started 16 games in his career, including one post-season contest.

Troutman and Dombrowski are now eligible to practice for the next 21 days before a decision needs to be made to activate one or both. Troutman is expected to practice with the Chargers for the first time on Wednesday. Troutman and Dombrowski may be activated at any time during the 21-day window.

The Chargers also made a move on their practice squad, re-signing defensive end Logan Harrell, a 6-foot-2, 280-pound rookie out of Fresno State. Harrell was released from the practice squad on Oct. 29 to make room for wide receiver Tori Gurley. Today the Chargers waived guard-tackle Charlie Bryant to make room for Harrell’s return to the practice squad.
