Lynch: You have to play like every play is your last play

Posted Dec 19, 2012

Safety Corey Lynch

What are you looking for in this game, which is between two teams that have been eliminated from the playoffs?

“Any time that you get to reflect and understand what you’re doing, going out on Sundays and playing in front of thousands of people, you realize that’s your dream and what you’ve been working for your whole life since you played in Pop Warner. Whether you’re in the playoffs or not isn’t relevant. You have to play like every play is your last play. For me, my job is not really to worry about stats, it’s not to worry about records, it’s to go play ball and to win.”

What are the challenges of facing a quarterback that you don’t have much tape on?

“It definitely is challenging, but he’s a young quarterback and doesn’t have very much experience. But you definitely don’t take any quarterback in this league lightly. They’re here for a reason. I don’t know that it’s any tougher preparing for him or (Mark) Sanchez or (Tim) Tebow. It’s just preparing to play in an NFL game. Those players are in the NFL, they’ve earned it and they’re good. It’s a little more challenging because we don’t have as much film on him.”

What is the special teams’ situation going into this game?

“Every week in the NFL there are great special teams’ players that you have to prepare for and this week is no different. The Jets blocked a punt last week and they have a good special teams. I think that Rich Bisaccia has done a great job and the way that he’s handled the week-to-week is a testament to him and the pride for this team and the players. I’m pretty excited about where the special teams have gone this year and the way they’ve helped out the offense and defense.”

What type of adjustments were made by Coach Bisaccia after the blocked punts?

“We just had to go back to ground zero and work up from it. We did that and we’ve been successful moving on from that. Again, it’s a testament to Bisaccia and how good of a coach he is. It’s more about looking into the future instead of looking at the past.”

Does the defense have something to prove after last week’s loss?

“Yeah, last week you look at the tape and you just kind of shake your head. I think that the defense have a lot to prove this week. We just want another chance to get back on the field and really prove what kind of defense we are.”

What did you see on film that made you shake your head?

“You look at plays like Cam (Newton) getting hit and then throwing the ball 40 yards in the air and no one intercepting it. It’s like, when does that ever happen? You look at Jarret Johnson tipping a ball and it going right into the hands of the running back and then he runs for a touchdown. It’s just one of those games that you wonder why the ball doesn’t go into the dirt or why that bad throw wasn’t intercepted.”

What are your thoughts on Tim Tebow?

“I think that Tebow is a great team player. I think that he’s not in it for himself, he’s in it to win and to help out his team. Obviously everyone knows about the situation there. What I respect about him is that he comes to work, he plays hard and he tries hard. On game film he’s running over people as a quarterback. I think that he’s done what they’ve asked of him. “

Do you know Tim Tebow personally?

“No, I don’t.”
