Liuget: We definitely are sticking together

DE Corey Liuget talks to the media after practice

Defensive End Corey Liuget

On his thoughts on watching the Bengals’ film:

“They are a very explosive offense. They have a group of young guys up front and also in the receiving corps. They have a quarterback that can get the ball down the field. They have a very decent run attack.”

On the current mood in the locker room:

“We definitely are sticking together. At the end of the day it is about us and how we perform, how we view each other, how we come out every day and give it our all. That is how you judge a man, by how he practices and how much effort he gives on the football field.”

On his production improving every week:

“Yes that definitely plays a role into it, (it’s my) second year just having the guys around me, more than anything. My defensive line coach, Don Johnson, pushes me harder than I have ever been pushed.  The guys around me, my teammates Vaughn (Martin), Antonio (Garay), Ken (Kendall Reyes), Aubrayo (Franklin) and Cam (Thomas) week-in and week-out, each of us is getting better and making plays.”

On the defense as a whole playing well but pointing to a reason why the team can’t just pull off a win:

“Football is all about a game of timing and inches. Unfortunately, sometimes we are not there to make the play. Once we put ourselves in the position to go out there and make the play--which our coaches prepare us every week to do it--we are just a little fraction of a second off from  an interception or a sack or caused fumble that can make it six.”

On how big a win would be this Sunday against the Bengals:

“Every game is big for us. A win in this game would be especially big because they are an AFC opponent .We definitely want to go out and get a ‘W’ and hopefully move up in the wild card race.”

On being surprised at his improved performance this year:

“I’m not too surprised because I know I worked my tail off in the off-season. I definitely am happier this year than I was last year. I feel a lot better. “

On whether having an extra year in the system has helped him grow:

“Yes, having more time in the system, knowing the guys and where you fit into the scheme of your defense.”

On veterans or coaches talking about keeping focused when things are bad:

“Definitely. Coaches, players and everyone, we all have been through something in life. It is all about how you react to it and how you approach it that is going to make you the person that you are. Everyone is taking the best approach that they know how, which is to work harder and get better every day. We just want to be professional about this whole thing.”
