Chargers sign nine-year veteran Alfonso Boone to bolster depth along the defensive line.

To help fill the void created when Pro Bowl defensive tackle Jamal Williams was placed on Reserve-Injured due to a tricep injury, the Chargers signed nine-year veteran Alfonso Boone to bolster depth along the defensive line.

Boone, who played under Chargers defensive coordinator Ron Rivera for three years and defensive line coach Don Johnson two years with the Chicago Bears, signed a one-year contract with San Diego.

The 6-5, 305-pound Boone has appeared in 113 games in his career with 37 starts. He spent the last two seasons (2007-08) with the Chiefs where he started 19 games at defensive tackle. Boone played for the Bears from 2000-06 and appeared in Super Bowl XLI with the club. The Saginaw, Michigan native was originally a seventh-round draft choice of the Lions in 2000 out of Mt. San Antonio College.
