The Chargers announced today that they have been awarded former Arizona Cardinals running back Foswhitt “Fozzy” Whittaker via waivers.
A 5-10, 202-pounder, Whittaker spent the final two weeks of the 2012 season on Arizona’s practice squad while Bolts’ offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt was the Cardinals’ head coach. A native of Houston, Whittaker was a first-team All-Big 12 pick at the University of Texas, despite suffering a season-ending knee injury in the ninth game of his senior season (2011). Whittaker went undrafted and unsigned in 2012 until landing with Cardinals following a tryout in December. As a collegian, Whittaker was a highly-decorated player who added Academic All-Big 12 honors to his resume. He finished his career at Texas with 263 carries, 1,233 yards and 12 touchdowns on the ground, and 73 catches, 464 yards and a score through the air.
