New jerseys available nationwide Thursday at Champs Sports

For the last six weeks, the phone at Champs Sports at the Plaza Bonita Mall in National City has seemingly been ringing off the hook.

“Since the Chargers announced that they were getting new jerseys, we’ve had fans calling nonstop asking us when they were going to be available and what players and colors we’d have,” said Chris Jose, General Manager of Champs Sports at Plaza Bonita Mall.  “We’re getting ready for a couple big days.  It’s going to be exciting.”

The wait is almost over for Chargers fans.  The team’s new-look jerseys officially go on sale at Champs Sports stores nationwide starting Thursday morning. 

“I’ll be at the mall as soon as it opens Thursday,” said Garrett White, a Chargers season ticket holder from San Diego. “I’ve been waiting six weeks to get the new jerseys.  I have LaDainian Tomlinson, Shawne Merriman and Philip Rivers in the old jerseys and I’m going to buy all three in the new ones. I love the new look.” 

On Friday, Chargers fans will have a chance to meet three of their favorite players while they pick up their new merchandise.  Defensive end Luis Castillo, cornerback Quentin Jammer and wide receiver Kassim Osgood will be at the National City store from 5-6:30 pm to greet fans and sign autographs. 

Champs Sports has approximately 600 stores across the country that will feature the new Chargers jerseys this weekend.  Chargers fans will have the opportunity to purchase the new look at three Champs Sports locations in the San Diego area.  The franchise has stores at Parkway Plaza in El Cajon, the Promenade Mall in Temecula and Plaza Bonita in National City.  

All three of the team’s jerseys – the navy home, the white away and the Power blue alternate jersey – will be available at Champs Sports.  In addition to jerseys, the new draft-day hat as well as various other merchandise and apparel items will be available at Champs Sports stores.

New merchandise is also available at the Chargers Team Store at Qualcomm Stadium as well as the team's official online store.
