Chargers running back LaDainian Tomlinson spent roughly two hours signing autographs at Field of Dreams sports memorabilia store in San Diego’s Fashion Valley Mall Saturday, and in the midst of fans giving brief congratulations on his 2006 season and well wishes for the upcoming year, there was one topic that dominated the conversations.
“They all wanted to talk about the new uniforms,” Tomlinson said. “Everyone seemed pretty excited. I know once people see them, they’re going to like them as much as we do. We really like the new look.”
The Chargers are set to unveil their three new uniforms at a private fashion show Wednesday. Players who have seen the jerseys are impressed. Linebacker Shaun Phillips was shopping at Fashion Valley Saturday afternoon and stopped in to see his teammate. When asked his thoughts on the new uniforms, Phillips was quick to give two thumbs up.
“I think it’s hot,” Phillips said. “I can’t wait to get on the field in them. I saw them for the first time last Thursday and really like them a lot. All the guys that I’ve talked to agree. We’re excited about the change.”
Fans will be able to get their first look at all three full uniforms as well as the new logo Wednesday night on Chargers.com. A full photo gallery will be available.
A few merchandise items featuring the new Chargers logo will be available immediately after Wednesday’s unveiling. Destinations for Chargers merchandise are the Chargers Team Store, the Chargers online pro shop and Champs Sports locations nationwide. Select t-shirts, polo shirts, headwear and novelty items will be available for purchase as early as Wednesday after 5 pm. The new jerseys will be available for the first time in stores on April 26. Fans can preorder jerseys through www.Chargersproshop.com.
In addition to the players receiving new duds, the Charger Girls uniforms will also be getting a makeover. Team officials are working to give the NFL’s hottest dance team a new look that reflects the addition of powder blue to the color scheme.
