Answers

1. B, the Chargers have drafted seven cornerbacks in the first rounds. That list includes Antonio Cromartie (2006), Sammy Davis (2003), Quentin Jammer (2002), Darrien Gordon (1993), Mossy Cade (1984), Gill Byrd (1983) and Mike Williams (1975). The second-most frequent position addressed in round one is offensive tackle (six, most recently Jim Lachey in 1985) and running back, the last being LaDainian Tomlinson in 2001.

2. The three quarterbacks taken in by the Bolts in round one include Marty Domres from Columbia in 1969, Washington State’s Ryan Leaf in 1998 and Eli Manning from Ole Miss in 2004.

3. A, Fred Dean was selected in the second round of the 1975 NFL Draft with the 33rd overall selection.

4. D, Jamal Williams was selected in the second round of the 1998 Supplemental Draft.

5. B, defensive end Karl Wilson was the last LSU Tiger selected by the Chargers. He was chosen in the third round of the 1987 NFL Draft.

6. C, Tennessee wide receiver Anthony Miller was drafted 15th overall by the Chargers in 1988.

7. Hall of Famer Kellen Winslow (13th overall in 1979) and Rod Bernstine (24th in 1987) are the only two tight ends taken by the Chargers in Round 1.

8. C, six. Each of Smith’s first four drafts have produced at least one player selected to the Pro Bowl. His list of All Star selections includes Hanik Milligan (6th round in 2003), Nate Kaeding and Nick Hardwick (both 3rd round in 2004), Shawne Merriman (1st, 2005) and a pair from 2006, first-round pick Antonio Cromartie and second-rounder Marcus McNeill.

Smith also signed three undrafted free agents (Antonio Gates, Kris Dielman and Kassim Osgood) who have earned Pro Bowl honors, and quarterback Philip Rivers, who was selected by the Giants and traded to the Chargers on draft day 2004, was also voted to a Pro Bowl.

9. True. Prior to Naanee no former Boise State players had ever played in a regular season game for the Chargers.

10. C, Texas. The Bolts have used three first-round picks on former Longhorns, including Quentin Jammer (2002), safety Stanley Richard in 1991 and cornerback Mossy Cade in 1984. Five other schools – Arkansas, Missouri, LSU, Tennessee and Texas A&M – have produced two Bolts first rounders.
