The Chargers added another cornerback to their roster when they selected Boston College’s DeJuan Tribble in the sixth round of the NFL Draft.
Tribble, 5-9, 190, intercepted 15 passes in his career to rank third in Boston College history and was considered one of the top cornerbacks in college football entering the 2007 season. But a knee injury, a sprained MCL, forced him to miss three games late in the season.
“That may have hurt him in the draft, but he worked his way back and we saw him in the Senior Bowl,” said Buddy Nix, the Chargers Assistant General Manager and Director of Player Personnel. “He’s a little short, but he’s got a stocky build. He’s a physical guy and he’ll hit you.”
Tribble started 10 games as a sophomore in 2005 and ended up starting 37 of 46 career games for the Eagles. He was a second-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference pick in 2006 and repeated as a second-teamer in 2007 despite the injury.
“He was a good player in a good program playing against good competition,” Nix said. “He’ll be a guy that can play nickel and in the slot. (Head coach) Norv (Turner) will decide how he'll fit in.”
