The Chargers made a move Saturday afternoon to improve their depth in the secondary as they promoted safety Tra Battle from their practice squad to the active roster.
As the Chargers prepare to face Pittsburgh Sunday, they'll possibly be without two key reserves in their defensive backfield. Cornerback Cletis Gordon (knee) is out, and safety Steve Gregory (neck) is listed as questionable. That made the addition of Battle necessary.
Battle joined the Chargers as an undrafted free agent in 2007. He spent his entire rookie season on the Bolts' practice squad and again made the eight-man practice squad this season. Battle played his college ball at Georgia.
In order to make room for Battle on the active roster, the Chargers waived rookie offensive tackle Cory Clark.
