Fans to select 50 greatest Chargers

Posted Jun 1, 2009

Chargers fans will get the opportunity to select the 50 greatest Chargers of all time in this special 50th Anniversary Celebration, presented by Pepsi.

Voting will take place August through September on the team’s official website, www.CHARGERS.com. The fans’ vote will be combined with a vote by the Chargers Hall of Fame members to determine the top 50. All positions will be represented, including head coach.  The Chargers will announce their top 50 members in October and introduce them during the team’s special 50th Anniversary Weekend, Nov. 27-29.

Some of the greatest players and coaches in football history have worn the lightning bolts. The Chargers have had their share of amazing athletes and trend-setting coaches on offense and defense as well as special teams. Some have reached the pinnacle of their profession and earned their place in the Pro Football Hall of Fame or the Chargers Hall of Fame. And countless others have produced years of memories for Chargers fans to celebrate.

The team and a select panel of Chargers historians have put together a list of the top players and head coaches. Criteria taken into account include length of tenure with the franchise, team and league and honors received as well as overall contributions.
