Williams Enacts Payback on Chiefs

Posted Nov 1, 2012

Demorrio Williams spent the previous four seasons as a member of the Kansas City Chiefs.

Thursday night, he made the club pay for not bringing him back for a fifth.

The savvy inside linebacker had a pair of big turnovers, forcing a fumble on the Chiefs opening drive of the game and then sealing the win with a 59-yard interception return for a touchdown.

“Anytime you can do that against your former team it feels good,” he admitted after the game. “Playing against them, it definitely gets your juices flowing.”

Overall, Williams was just happy to help the team end its’ three-game slide.

“It felt good, especially the opportunity to get the win,” he said. “That’s the main thing.  We came down today and competed.  We were able to come away with the win.”

Head coach Norv Turner praised Williams in his post-game press conference for his ability to make the big play.

“Here’s the deal: you go out, you go play and you take care of your position,” he said. “Then, in different situations, you get opportunities to make big plays.  If you get those opportunities and you take advantage of them, then that’s what happened tonight… When your number is called, when you get that opportunity when the ball bounces that way and you have an opportunity to make a play, then make it.  That’s what happened tonight.”

Williams’ pick-six was definitely the exclamation mark on an outstanding performance by the defense as a whole.

“It was a great call,” he said about the play. “It was a cover 3 call.  They’d been running cross curls.  I was in great position.  I don’t know if somebody stepped in front of me or whatever, or tipped the ball or whatever, but thank God I was able to make the play.”
