Wife of Chargers player passes away

Posted Feb 13, 2012

SAN DIEGO – The wife of Chargers defensive tackle Tommie Harris passed away Sunday evening in Oklahoma after suffering a stroke or a brain aneurysm.

“The Chargers family is saddened by the sudden loss of one of our very young members,” the team said in a statement. “Tommie Harris’ wife Ashley was just 29 and leaves behind a loving husband and two young children. Our prayers are with the Harris family during this most difficult time.”

Ashley Harris delivered the couple’s second child less than six months ago.

Her funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday in New Orleans. The church has not been determined.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Pros for Africa in memory of Ashley Harris. The non-profit provides food, water, clothing and other necessities to disadvantages children. Its address is 1721 Del Simmons Drive in Edmond, OK, 73003.

Tommie Harris played 13 games for the Chargers in 2011 and made three sacks after spending most of his career with the Chicago Bears.
