Who Would Make the Chargers' "Futbol" Roster?

Posted Jun 23, 2014

We pick the 11 man squad that would make up the Chargers World Cup roster.

With the entire nation captivated by the World Cup, we at Chargers Park have wondered what a Chargers “futbol” roster would look like.

Well wonder no more as we give to you the 2014 Chargers World Cup roster! Of course, it would be too easy to put Nick Novak and Mike Scifres on the squad, so don't expect to see the Bolts' special teamers on the pitch.

Goalie – Ladarius Green

The 6-6, 240-pounder eats up a lot of space, but also has the athleticism to cover the entire net.  Going high on him would be virtually impossible.

Defense – Shareece Wright, Jahleel Addae, Eddie Royal, Jason Verrett

With speed to stay with the opposition making runs, two cornerbacks in Wright and Verrett man the outside.  Addae brings a physical presence to the backline while Royal has proven deft at working in tight quarters.

Midfield – Keenan Allen, Danny Woodhead, Eric Weddle, Malcom Floyd

Allen and Floyd would be dangerous joining the offense from the outside, and would also be weapons via an aerial attack.  At center midfield, Woodhead and Weddle form a pair of smart and creative two-way playmakers.

Forward – Tevin Reese, Ryan Mathews

Reese and Mathews are bookend attackers that bring two different styles to the offense.  Reese has lightning fast breakaway speed to stretch the defense, while Mathews has a powerful style that would wear down the backline.

Manager – Philip Rivers

Smart and energetic, Rivers has head coach material written all over him.  No doubt he has the mental makeup and motivation to guide a winning club on the pitch.
